SEA SCOUT SHIP 908 PROGRAMS
SAILING WITH AUTISM
SAILING ADVENTURES:
May through October
Participants and their caregivers journey with us on 1-2 hour sailing adventures weekly.
Typically we end the course with a sail from Southampton to Mystic Connecticut.

SAILING THROUGH TIME: PHYSICS OF SAILING - A SHTEM Exploration:
November through April
During the cold months or inclement weather, the program seamlessly shifts to a captivating SHTEM Course (Science, History, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) focused on the historical significance of sailing.
This specialized curriculum delves into the physics of sailing, exploring the dynamic forces at play, including the interaction of wind, water resistance, lift and buoyancy. Creatively simplifying complicated concepts, grabs the attention of the students and is the key to effective teaching
A pivotal aspect of this course spotlights Dead Reckoning navigation—an indispensable skill that has historically guided mariners through uncharted waters. It's like playing a strategic guessing game to figure out a location on a map when there aren't any visible landmarks. It's the kind of skill that made ancient explorers feel like navigational superheroes.

Through a multidisciplinary approach, students will gain insights into how sailing has shaped civilizations, influenced exploration, and continues to impact various fields today.
